richard mccurraCh
Originally from lower mainland, BC, Rick has been an Alberta resident on and off since 2009. He moved to the province in pursuit of gainful employment as a pipefitter after completing the first year of an apprenticeship through BCIT. During his time in province he met a number of inspirational people who encouraged him to pursue post-secondary education and a legal career. He completed two years of his undergraduate degree at Okanagan College in 2013, pausing his studies for two years to work as a roughneck on drilling rigs in northern BC to pay for his tuition, before returning to finish his bachelor's degree at UBC from 2015 to 2017.
In 2016 Rick joined the Canadian Armed Forces as an Armoured Reconnaissance Officer, training as a reservist in evenings and on weekends while pursuing both his undergraduate and Juris Doctor degrees, and while maintaining gainful employment in the civilian sector. After year-end finals, Rick would dedicate the entirety of his springs/summers to military training in Gagetown, New Brunswick. He departed the CAF in 2022 having attained the rank of Captain.
Rick was called to the British Columbia Bar in 2022, and then to the Alberta Bar in 2024. His practice as a civil litigator began during the Covid era and was focused primarily on employment and public health and administrative law in BC, defending those persecuted by mandates and/or facing termination from their places of employment. Rick’s practice has also included a broad array of other civil litigation cases, wills and estates, and land titles matters. He is now expanding more into those fields, as well as real estate and criminal law to better serve the many needs of rural communities.
Additionally, Rick operates a family horse ranch near Caroline, AB where he does colt starting and horse training. In his spare time, he is an avid hunter/outdoorsman and does competitive horseback archery. Rick understands the value of hard work and how significantly legal matters can impact the lives of everyday working-class people. His goal therefore is to make sure that not only can those people access quality representation, but that they get the most value for their hard-earned dollar to achieve the best results possible.
